IN THE DEPTHS OF POLAR EXPLORATION AND THE PURSUIT OF THE GREENLAND SHARK
Edox stands alongside those who push the boundaries of exploration. In the Ananta II expedition to Greenland, our CO-1 Chronograph Automatic watch was an essential ally, accompanying the divers in extreme conditions and supporting them in their quest for a rare observation: the mysterious Greenland shark, a deep-sea creature that remains largely unknown.
An Extraordinary Expedition to Greenland
Quest to Discover Greenland Shark
After two years of preparation, the Ananta team set off for Ilulissat, Greenland, for a unique journey. Their goal: to explore untouched underwater areas and encounter the legendary Greenland shark. Equipped with packrafts, lightweight and eco-friendly vessels, they navigated among icebergs, carrying all the necessary gear, including specialized rebreathers for diving in freezing waters.
The Perfect Tool for Exploration
CO-1 Chronograph Automatic
The Edox CO-1 Chronograph Automatic, built to withstand the most extreme environments, demonstrated its robustness in the harsh polar conditions. During dives beneath icebergs over 60 meters tall, the CO-1 proved reliable and resilient to freezing temperatures, high pressure, and ice impacts. This expedition reaffirmed Edox’s durability and robustness, where other equipment might fail, allowing the team to focus fully on observing the Greenland shark.
A Memorable 800 km Journey Across the Ice
Sailing and Diving
After the first week of diving and acclimatization in Disko Bay, the team happened to meet a couple of sailors who invited them to cover nearly 800 km aboard their sailboat. This journey, by day and night, through fields of icebergs, allowed the Ananta team to conduct several dives using rebreathers—equipment that demands extreme precision to avoid risks such as hypoxia or hypercapnia. Under these conditions, the CO-1 became more than just a chronograph: it was a vital safety instrument.
EDOX CO-1 CHRONOGRAPH AUTOMATIC – FORGED FOR EXTREME CONDITIONS
In their journey across the ice, facing freezing waters and sleeping on icebergs, the Ananta team tested the CO-1 watch in some of the planet’s harshest conditions. From dives under massive icebergs and intense pressure changes to ice collisions, the CO-1 overcame each challenge without faltering. This expedition proves that Edox crafts watches capable of withstanding the most hostile environments, for fearless explorers who, like the CO-1, never back down from a challenge.
